Wishes for Sons

I wish them cramps.
I wish them a strange town
and the last tampon.
I wish them no 7-11.
I wish them one week early
and wearing a white skirt.
I wish them one week late.
Later I wish them hot flashes
and clots like you wouldn’t believe.
Let the flashes come when they
meet someone special,
let the clots come
when they want to.
Let them think they have accepted
arrogance in the universe,
then bring them to gynecologists
not unlike themselves.
Lucille Clifton (1990)
Damn Lucille, don’t hurt em’ so bad!
From a brother who grew up with older sisters.
I wish you peace, love  and a 7-11 on every corner.

Peace,

A child of the 60's I often feel out of place in the world as it exist today. Too much excess, too much materialism, too few people who genuinely care or give a damn. It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye. Antoine de Saint-Exupery
