Resuce The Dead

Rescue The Dead
Finally, to forgo love is to kiss a leaf,
is to let rain fall nakedly upon your head,
is to respect fire,
is to study a man’s eyes and his gestures
as he talks,
is to set bread upon the table
and a knife discreetly by,
is to pass through crowds
like a crowd of oneself.
Not to love is to live.
To love is to be led away
into a forest where the secret grave
is dug, singing, praising darkeness
under the trees.
To live is to sign your name,
is to ignore the dead,
is to carry a wallet
and shake hands.
To love is to fish.
My boat wallows in the sea.
You are free,
rescue the dead.

Mine is not to interpret this for you but just to put it out there.  Take from this what you will.

A child of the 60's I often feel out of place in the world as it exist today. Too much excess, too much materialism, too few people who genuinely care or give a damn. It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye. Antoine de Saint-Exupery

  2. I think…I think it means…Those who love are so wrapped up in it that they forget to do everything else. They don’t "live." They are dead to the world. It’s not a bad thing, but they don’t get much accomplished, ie, they don’t carry wallets and make transactions.

  4. Do you want people to try to interpret? Is interpretation taboo on your site? Or do *you* just not like to interpret, putting fragile glass poems out there for people to handle gently and hold up to the light themselves? If I committed a faux pas, please tell me so I don’t do it again. I won’t think you’re mean, it’s your ball park, your rules.

  5. medeaNJ,Some of both – but certainly not taboo by any means. Forgive me if I left the impression that I wasn’t asking for "open" interpetations on my site. I try to post things that are thought provoking on a lot of different levels. Please by all means hold them up to the light and express what you feel. My bad…Peace,Ten

  6. No need to apologize! You didn’t give that impression at all! I just noticed that no one else seemed to be giving interpretations, & they’ve all been here longer. Truly, that’s all it was.
